What's new

Does anyone else not like the hoodscoops??? New '25 TB here (wife's)

Just picked up a new '25 TB 6.2 for the wife. Her '18 LTZ was in the shop at 85k miles needing a new transmission ($7k) so we were in a bit of bind. Wife didn't want to wait for a custom order or an inbound vehicle so our choices were limited in terms of what the dealer had on their lot. She loves it.... so that is all the really matters, but not an ideal spec to my tastes. I talked her into letting me remove the rear decals and I just installed GoRhino RB20 (slim) running boards. My biggest dislike with the truck is 1) the technology overload, and 2) the hood scoop(s). Does the hood scoop come on all new TB's or just on the 6.2? If it was my truck I'd be looking into a hood swap right now but she likes it. We are getting some real snow tomorrow so i'm curious to see how these Goodyear MT's will do in the snow. I was disappointed not to see a 3 peak rating not the sidewall. We've run Duratracs on her last two Silverados with good luck. I've run BFG AT KOs on my Toyotas.View attachment 18719
I have a 22 TB LT that has the same hood scoop. What I didn’t like is the gloss black causing a sun glare off of it. I first tried putting matte decals on the back side of the scoop. This helped, but eventually I had the hood scoop painted in a black matte which completely cured the problem.

I think they make the truck look a little thicker…which makes the tires look even smaller lol…but the glare is an issue and I cannot believe there hasn’t been a recall to minimize that…plus the scoop rubs paint off the hood ffs.

Definitely an issue. I did read on the ZR2 forum that GM did issue a bulletin on the hood scoop paint damage and issued a fix. I went to the Chevy dealership and they hadn’t heard of it. I had to show it to them. Before they could do the fix my hood was damaged and was repaired by insurance. The body shop did the repairs per the bulletin instructions. Plus I had them paint the hood scoop a matte black. No more glare issues. I too can’t believe that Chevy didn’t pick up on this pre-production and it hasn’t been changed.

One issue with the hood scoop is when the sun hits the back of the hood scoop the reflection will almost blind you!

I found some small decals on Ebay that fixed this issue for me. Pretty easy to install too!
I had also installed some decals from a forum subscriber and they had worked well. But then I had the misfortune of a tree branch damaging my hood which ended up having to be replaced. I took this opportunity to have the hood scoop painted a matte black which totally eliminated the issue. I can’t fathom why GM went with a gloss black. This is to me a safety issue with the sun glare.

I agree! This could have been avoided easily. Although I did have a similar problem with the hood on my 4runner, which also required a decal for the glare.

Yup! all it did was cause insane glare, especially here in AZ, until I put on a matte black decal I got.
Since I am moving to AZ in a month or two, could you divulge where you get the matte black decal? I noted on Amazon a set of clear matte decals for the back...is that the decals?
Thanks....

i got them on Ebay. There are lots of options. Made such a difference here with the sun.

most use the decal on the rear portion of the scoop...THAT was never my issue, mine was the inside of the pass side scoop. I travel a lot of N/S direction in mine...the sun coming from the west when heading N killed me.

GM has not issued a bulletin for this, as each person and height varies. i can adjust my seat, and correct the glare from all sides...but my SELECTED position causes an issue.

I copied this from the last person I responded to - The person who makes these vinal decals is Mitch Lakey. His email address is [email protected] From what I understand is that he improved his design, to change it from two decals to one. Hardest part I found was the installation. It's a hard area to get to. I purchased two just in case I screwed up on the installation. Good luck.
