Muffler delete drone!

5.3 or 6.2? Did you remove flapper and leave resonators or delete both?
I opened up the flapper with two hose clamps and I rubbed JB weld on the resonator screens and it sounds awesome just like that way louder and it’s still stock!! All for $5.00

The best I can gather the flapper and resonators are both used from factory to essentially control noise and flow, obviously along with the muffler. The flapper comes more into play I believe with DFM activated to eliminate the helicopter/drone noise as cylinders shut down. The resonators at the end of the tailpipes eliminate certain higher? frequencies.

I by no means am an expert and anybody with greater knowledge may be able to explain better.

My biggest difficulty in choosing in an aftermarket muffler swap is comparing the list of is the flapper deleted, are the resonators deleted, does this truck have the chips for DFM and/or is it deleted by Range/Pulsar?

Exactly. That's why I cant wait to install my afe muffler delete.
did you do the muffler delete ? also did you cut off the flapper valve ? currently looking to delete or a different muffler

I did the delete and kept the flapper, it’s perfect for me and no drone at all. All for like a buck-twenty

I did the afe muffler delete. It retains the flapper. Perfect sound. Not sure why people are saying there's drone. Virtually none.

This is a relatively inexpensive option.
I have no drone and my truck sounds pretty nice IMO.
If I had to do it again, I would have cut out the flapper when installing the muffler.
I wasn't sure how loud it was going to be, so I played it safe and left it on, once I heard it with the flapper clamped open I knew it was going to stay this way. I also taped over the resonators.
I bought mine for under $200 on amazon, and you install it yourself with just a sawzall in 15 minutes

I have the muffler delete with the flapper valve intact. How is the sound affected with it clamped open? And is the cold start even louder now?

YES it is louder with the flapper open. It's easy to hear the difference just lay under the truck while its running and twist the clamp open with your hand. You will hear the difference and cold starts are pretty aggressive this way. Make sure your truck isn't too hot and wear a glove to be safe.

I did twist the flapper valve clamp when I had the stock muffler on, but not since installing the delete pipe. Definitely don’t need it any louder, as the cold start is already loud enough on early mornings so I’ll just leave it as is.

Purchased this AFE also after 20K worth of the AFE muffler delete pipe. 5.3 never sounded so good, drone at speed insane.
Took to my local muffler shop to have flapper valve (they claim it is an unnecessary valve to assist with engine warm-up) removed.
Did the install with additional pipe (the piece that comes with the muffler is too short to remove flapper).
Did a very professional install, no more "Bark" at cold start (neighbor appreciated) and no drone while driving, but still sound respectful.
