Muffler delete

I didn't want to spend that kind of money either so I searched around and found the rough country exhaust system on sale for only $500. Installed it last week and have no complaints it sounds great. I do a lot of highway cruising at 70mph and there's zero drone.
That’s a decent price for sure..full cat back?

Yeah full cat back and you also get round black exhaust tips that look pretty cool or you can keep the stock ones. Very good quality and simple to install. Took me a little over an hour to put on.

Sounds like a great option. I’m assuming it’s held together by clamps since you installed yourself. If so, are you going to have it welded? I know people will sometimes go that route

No I'm not going to weld it. I don't think it's necessary but you can if that's what you prefer. The clamps they give you to use are heavy duty and stainless steel.

When I did the muffler delete on mine I started it with the flapper still on and it was still quite to me. I removed the flapper and installed the delete pipe. i get plenty of good comments on it. Definitely louder on cold start but once warm it mellows out some.

Oh wow..still quiet with the muffler delete because of that flapper?! I wonder if you could have just clamped it open if that would have worked, this way it never actually closes and stifles the sound

Have the RC catback on mine. I'm ready to true dual it and be done with it. Not loud enough.

You can make it stay open but the delete pipe is long enough to remove it too. Just have to cut as close as possible to the valve

Update: I’ve done the AFE muffler delete and I’m happy with the outcome. Sounds great on cold start..then quiets down enough soon thereafter so you don’t totally piss off your neighbors lol..but still retains a nice deep grumble at idle. On the road it has a nice throaty sound which develops upon heavy acceleration..but it won’t deafen you at cruising speeds. Worth the money imo.
Maybe down the road I’ll splurge on a nice cat back from Borla or Flowmaster etc. For now this works. I was a bit hesitant about cutting off the muffler and putting on a straight pipe on a $40k truck, but I’m happy I did. I always felt it was so incredibly quiet, and now I finally hear that V8 power.

Did you keep the flapper on? Can you provide a link to where you bought it? I just want a nice rumble, nothing extremely loud as our truck is our family vehicle at the moment. I would probably just buy the part and take it to shop to have them install it. As a matter of fact, may be a good xmas gift idea for my wife!

I have the same muffler and agree. It along with the S&B CAI the truck sounds great.

Yes I kept the flapper valve on. It’s a very easy modification. You’re simply cutting off your factory muffler with a reciprocating saw (the video install instructions tell you where to measure) and replacing it with the pipe from the website. Note: you’ll need a 9” blade for your reciprocating saw to cut off your existing factory muffler. Once you slide it in place, there’s clamps on each side that you tighten up with a ratchet and 15 mm socket, torqued to 40-45 ft lbs. I had to loosen and retighten the front clamp a few times, as it wasn’t sealing properly at first. Moisture was seeping out. It was a quick fix after a few adjustments. Below is the link; it has the install video on the website, plus the pipe comes with printed instructions.

Can anyone get a sound clip? Or are the files too large.

Yes the CAI definitely sounds great with it. I have the K&N Performance one.

you tube has hundreds...they all sound the same. the delete is easy and has a nice sound. a god muffler will refine that sound and tame it slightly at cruising speed. since deleting mine, i have been researching mufflers. i want the deep aggressive tones, but currently run most interstate driving in 9th gear at 1900 rpm and ZERO DRONE
