Remote Start Doesn't Start Climate Control

Wow, that's interesting. Maybe there is something wrong with my rig. 2 questions for you and Steve and Baz. Were you using the key fob to remote start or your cell phone? And, are you signed up for Onstar? Thanks everyone for your input and help.
I use my key fob to remote start. Onstar won’t get my money.

Hi Folks;
I have a 2023 LT TB 1500. When I use the remote start, the climate control does not turn on. When I get in, put my foot on the brake, hit the start button, the climate control and infotainment system and everything THEN starts up. I've been given advice and none has worked. Is this how it was built to work? It kind of defeats the purpose of using the remote start if it doesn't turn the heat on. Looking forward to know if this is fixable or not. Thanks!
have you gone into the infotainment centers settings ????? my 2022 turns on heat or a/c even my heated seats

I used FOB.

Experimented with this today...'24 1500 LT. Left the truck outside with the radio on, heat on lowest setting, then shut truck off and locked it. Outside temperature 9 degrees. Later on I remote-started it, unlocked it - inside I found the radio head unit was off, the heat was blasting heat at max setting. Once I pressed the brake pedal and started, all my previous settings before shut-off came back as they were ( heat, radio on etc..). Looks like it does what it is supposed to do, and it definitely is outside temperature dependent.
Oh, another thing...when I did get in the car I found the steering wheel locked. Once I hit the start button, wheel unlocked and all the other stuff mentioned returned to default.

My 2019 will turn on the seats, steering wheel and always the rear defroster, and sometimes the front defroster. The fan speed on the heat is low but it's still far better than jumping into a cold vehicle.

I believe I have discovered the answer.
I found some discussion on this that says if you are an OnStar customer, you can set it up to turn on the heat with remote from your phone. That infuriates me. Chevrolet does this in many ways. Trying to make a nickel and to hell with the customer who paid a crazy high price to buy a high end truck. Yeah, pay $14.99 a month and Chevy won't "leave you out in the cold". Starting to feel like a fool buying this truck. Still would like to hear from anyone who has Onstar if their heater comes on when they remote start with their phone.
2021 LT 5.3 TB I use the key fob to remote start. I believe everything works as it should.
I had on star for the first year and canceled it. I found it mostly useless.
I love my truck, I am not happy with GM anymore, but for other reasons. I am not disapointed because GM owned on star wants me to give them 15 dollars a month to control a small handful of features from my phone. No one is holding me hostage. Do you really regret your purchase because of On Star?

Steve

Past few weeks in Chicago it has been in the negatives, everyday I remote start and get into a warmed truck, heated seats and steering wheel. Adjusting the climate setting for remote start to auto fan speed hi helps achieve it faster.

I too live in Alaska and sometimes remote start my 2019 TB using my fob. In our current weather my defroster comes on full blast until I put the key in and turn to "run" mode, then it is in normal operation. I do not pay for OnStar. Of course there may be differences between our two TB's.

Thanks for replying. What you say doesn't seem to be the problem in my case, though. I have an aftermarket headbolt heater, oil pan heater, transmission pan heater and trickle charger. I can remote start and when I get in everything on the dash is dark, no heat, no fan. I put my foot on the brake, hit the start button, and everything lights up and turns on and the fan and heat come on and are warm. Water and oil temps are up. All this should turn on when I remote start it and start running when the water is warm enough to provide heat - like they always used to. Yes, my seats and steering wheel heat up, but that's it. I still hope to get to the bottom of this and hear from more people who have the same issue or a fix for it. Thanks though.
My wheel and heat are on but not the heated seat. And both defrosts are working.

I have a question….
Where can I find info to help me install a block heater, oil pan heater, ect.

No Steve, it isn't just onstar, onstar is just one of many reasons. My dislike is mostly the ridiculous electronic engineering. On one hand they try to offer so much and on the other hardly any of it is intuitive or even works. So much of it just makes me shake my head as to why would they do this? That and the price I paid and I ordered the preferred package. The package doesn't include electric folding outside mirrors? It has all the equipment installed for front distance maintaining, it even lights up like it's working and allows me to set the distance, but I don't have it. Obviously, a chip programmed to shut it off, which to me is arrogant greed. The front collision system often doesn't work because there is snow/ice/frost built up on the windshield where they have sealed off the sensor on the inside stopping the warm defrost air to get to it. Heads up is another thing that is fully equipped and shut off because I didn't pay more. The lack of insulation on the roof makes for heat escaping which melts snow build up which then turns to ice that get's carried around until I chip it off doing who knows what to the finish. The windshield is paper-thin. The slightest impact by a pebble or even catch an edge of a cleaning sponge will leave a forever mark. The BS owner's manual which basically covers every pickup they sell and every item starts with 'if so equipped' and is often wrong is worthless. Inquiries to dealers are usually met with, I don't know. GM videos can be helpful, but are often wrong. I still don't really know if my cab heat should turn on when I use the remote start or not, it doesn't, regardless of outside temperature. A lot of this it seems should be fixable with a software update, if they cared. And I love the auto shut off that you have to set to no EACH TIME you start the rig, albeit that was probably a government woke mandate. And the hours I've spent trying to figure it all out p's me off too. I wonder how this crappy this system compares to how crappy other manufacturer's systems are, anyone know? So, like I said, it isn't just the collusion with onstar and google, it is many things. And I don't think I can name one thing that is better than a model from 10 years ago. Progress? My 2007 Hummer has many features that are much better than my 2023 Chev. Every year, more expensive, and not as good. That's a shame of the new normal. End of rant, thanks for reading. Steve, you mentioned there are other things you don't like other than onstar. Did I cover them, or can you add to the list?

Over all I am very happy with my truck. Everything works as it should. However, I am not happy with GM anymore. And I am a chevy guy.

GM is hard core about warranty and mods. They will hassle you or even cancel it over stupid stuff. I have had to fight with them over warranty and it wasn't even about mods. They threatened to cancel my entire warranty because I use it off road. They called it "abuse". They put my entire warranty "under review". I told them I would sell it and buy a Toyota if they canceled it. Don't believe everything you read on here about "they have to prove a mod was the problem". Their proof is you changed something designed by their engineers. I love my truck but I am not happy with GM.

Mine is a 2021 LT set up nicely but I don't have some of the stuff your referring to.

By the way GM owns on-star. That's why they push it so hard.

Kind Regards,

Steve

Was having the same problem
Remote start was not starting the climate I.e heating or steering wheel or seats or anything

I have a 2019 trail Boss
If you look at the left climate control knob
It has an (Auto) button at the bottom of it in the center

1 with the truck running press the auto button and it will light up

2 Make sure the feature is turned on in the HMI of the truck (the display screen)

3 turn the truck off, get out of the truck, lock the truck, start the truck with the key fob, unlock the truck, get in the truck... The climate control will then be on through remote start

4 it's okay to feel defeated by an auto button

5 smile because you figured it out

6 Post your success online for others to share in your glory

You're welcome

2026 LT TB 1500 here. Using my key fob or the Chevy app on my phone to remotely start my truck it is toasty warm in 15 minutes. Check your climate control settings on the infotainment screen. Hope this helps.
