Transmission won’t shift into Drive

Just heard from the dealership. They ordered the parts for a valve body replacement. They’ve had my truck for a week. I’m assuming that they tested it until they replicated the issue and determined that the valve body was the culprit.
I’m going to tell the transmission shop that has my trail boss look into the valve body as well.
It’s crazy because I went to pick up my truck this morning, and after I paid for the tow and diagnostic fee he went to pull up my truck. Comes back and says it finally happened for us. He reversed out the parking spot put it on drive and just started revving. Thank God it happened there and not after I left lol . So he was going to put it on the lift to do a full diagnostic since the problem occurred for them.

I’m still not sure if they’re replacing the valve body and the TCM or just the valve body. Right now, I’m assuming it’s just the valve body, but they’re supposed to get back to me. It could be the valve body and the TCM, since both parts are connected and etc.

That's great to hear. Way better than a new transmission. You're lucky yours is still under warranty. I'm still waiting on the transmission shop. I really wished I had an idea how much its gonna cost to repair it. I honestly want to drive it straight to the dealership and trade it.

I can let you know what my transmission shop says tomorrow price wise so you know what to expect. When I asked the guy at the shop how much it would be to replace the TCM , he said it was at least 2,000$, and that’s with the work done and adding new fluid. He said prices went up on them. With a valve body idk what is the price difference but I but I can keep you posted.

I had the same thought (regarding trading it in) the 3rd time mine quit working. I’m sure my first few road/camping trips with the family after this are going to be a bit more uneasy than the last ones in my truck. Getting stranded an hour from home right next to the interstate is one thing. Getting stranded with the family, the travel trailer, and etc on a mountain pass or remote camp spot out in the middle of nowhere is another.

My truck finally went to the transmission shop today. I’ll update when I know more. Has anyone else gotten their trucks repaired?

Mine’s still at the dealership. I hope to have it back by tomorrow… after two weeks.

I get my report today on what needs to get replaced. I’ll let you know what they tell me.

Got mine back today. Running great so far. The report said that the mechanic experienced the same issue I had and found the #5 check ball stuck in the valve body separator plate.

So mine had actually stopped running all together. No forward gears. Mechanic said the clutch was toast. I had no 1,2,3 gears he said. So now he has to rebuild the transmission. He did say everything going in is better then OEM parts and should never happen again after this. spending 4700$ to get. It fixed.

Interesting how it’s 2 very different issues. With the same problems going in. I’m hoping I’ll have an answer this week. Did y’all have 6 speeds or 8 speeds?

Mine is the 6-speed automatic. Sounds like my problems were different than @Agonza92. His had no forward drive gears at all. Mine was intermittently not moving forward when in Drive. When mine did work, it was like there was no problem at all, then it just wouldn’t go forward when in Drive, then it would start working again like nothing was wrong.

Mine is a 6 speed also and our problems have sounded the same. I’m still waiting on an update. But I might give them a heads up about the valve body.

Finally got my truck back today. It took awhile for the problem to replicate for the mechanic. Once it started it became an ongoing issue. They found the No. 1 check ball stuck in the plate. He said it was a lucky find and if it had happened any other area they probably wouldn’t have seen it. The bill was $1100.
