What's new

What did you do to your Trailboss today? 🛠️

Working on installing an ARB air compressor with 1 gallon tank on Valhalla Offroad molle panel. Gas can is 1.75 gallons. I carry 2 of them there. It's going to be several days until this is done. I'm waiting on parts to be delivered. Figured I'd get a start on it right now and start working on running the electrical while I wait for parts. I'm not 100% sold on the orientation of the tank. The residential outdoor electrical box is the only thing I could find that'll keep water off the switch.

Cant wait to see it mounted in your truck. Will that Molle panel bolt down solid enough to handle the compressor or or you using vibration dampening on it too.
Thats a long wire run for a high amp draw device. I think your switch is fine. Overkill is good when dealing with the heat that system will create.

If I had it to do over again, I would have gotten the extremes. They have more ass behind them. They're awesome steps. Don't get me wrong. But I wouldn't recommend the standard ones for anyone that lives in harsh conditions.
I often wondered this. I also didn't want to spend that kind of money for them.

My Amp steps work good in the winter. But I do keep my truck in a heated garage and I have weathertech mudflaps that keeps alot of the snow off the steps.
Your situation is optimal, mine not so much. That said, I should finish my garage out and insulate it. You have me thinking. 👍

I think the molle panel will be fine. To save on weight I went with a lighter tripoly air hose. The molle panel is mounted with 2 brackets that are installed by the 2 optional tie downs you can get from GM for the truck bed. You sandwich a bracket between the bed wall and the tie down. Each bracket has 2 bolts to connect the molle panel. There's also 2 brackets at the top to sandwich the top of the bed rail between the bracket and molle panel. And, because I also have a retrax tonneau I'm able to sandwich the 2 top brackets between the tonneau rail and the bed rail. The air tank is light due to being aluminum. The air compressor and fuel tanks are the heaviest item on the panel. As I see it, the molle panel on the passenger side has been carrying a 5# fire extinguisher and two 1.75 gallon water tanks for over a year without any problems. The weight seems comparable to the driver side with the fuel tanks and air compressor, so I think it'll be fine.

As for the long run of wire, I agree. I was able to find a company called Expedition Essentials that makes a 17 foot harness extension for this setup. They specialize in Toyota Tacomas, and I was unable to find any reports of failures with this setup. However, even when the air compressor is mounted right next to the battery ARB recommends not using the air compressor unless the engine is on.

Here's what the final setup is going to look like. That is 100 feet of hose and only 1 fuel can mounted. I plan on only carry 50 feet of hose on the molle panel with the remaining 50 feet in the tote you see at the front of the bed. The spacing is very tight, but the air compressor is not touching the air tank and won't be touching the tonneau canister.

Installed Bilstein 5100s on the rear and changed out my engine and cabin air filters👍
They ride a little firmer and definitely look better than the white / red Ranchos😎. I’ll eventually get some Bilsteins for the front but doubt Ill install myself.

So I ran across a video on YouTube from Donslife of him installing Putco MOLLE panels in his truck. They have them for both bedsides, bulkhead, tailgate both standard and multipro/multiflex, but they're NOT cheap! They are no drill installation though. I'd like a pair for the bedsides, but not for almost $900!

Valhalla Offroad came out with theirs first, and they're much cheaper. I have them and love them. Highly recommend. No drilling at all for install, but you do need the optional tie down hooks for the center of the bed wall for installation of the molle panels. If you scroll up a few posts to my last post you'll see I posted a pic of an air compressor install that I'm currently doing. There's also a gas can next to the air hose. That's being done on the driver's side Valhalla Offroad molle panel. In the background you'll see a fire extinguisher hanging on the passenger side. I also have 2 water tanks hanging on it, but removed them temporarily due to freezing temperatures. The following link is for the short bed. The also make them for the standard bed. Drivers side is currently sold out. The have 2 for the passenger side. Get on the notification list for the driver side. I had a similar experience when I went to buy them. When they did finally have some for purchase there were only 5 available. It seems they only make them in small quantities and sell them quickly.

Btw, my air compressor project is almost done. I started running electrical today. Figuring out the switch box assembly was the hardest part. I'm going to finish running the electrical tomorrow and will rehang the molle panel so I can mount everything and get it all plugged in so I can check for air leaks.

I'm not sure if the upper clamp would work with my Retrax tonneau cover rails. I already have the cargo hooks.

It will. That's a guarantee. I know because I've done it. I can show you and provide pics if you need help. If you look at my pic a few posts up that's a Retrax tonneau in the background above the tote with the yellow lid. If you scroll up to post #1937 you'll see another pic of the molle panel. Notice along the top edge there are cutouts. Those are locations where the Retrax tonneau mounting clamps can be utilized. The big difference is instead of the long bolt on the bottom of the clamp pushing against the side of the bed with the rubber bushing it'll be pushing against the molle panel.

Any one built or found something you really like for the black hole in the dashboard(below the mirror)? Seems like a good spot for a small solar panel with a battery backup and phone mount.

I have a phone mount installed in mine. Bulletpoint mounting solutions.

I use mine for my drive safe and save beacon. Other than that it's a dust holder.
