What I don’t like about my Trail Boss

First post here so might as well make it a good complaining one.

1. Small non folding mirrors that are useless for trailering. And no upgrade options (yet I hope).

2. Why the huge difference in brake and throttle pedals? Everyone who drives it complains about the break being so far off the throttle.

3. The “dead pedal” thing gets in the way in long drives for sure.

4. Paddle shifters are worthless in a truck except for using engine breaking to slow. But ours aren’t active without first shifting into “L” on the center console thing. So if you are trailering and needing extra stopping help you have to take your hand off the wheel and shift the lever, then start downshifting. Not good.

5. I have the diesel and hate the fact I can’t (easily) use the high speed pumps thanks to the stupid small cap less system. And I can’t imagine how much dirt and salt will get into that thing in the winter.

6. The suspension feels “mushy” in the front end to me unless I put it in sport mode. Maybe it’s because of the diesel. And it should remember the mode you left it in so you don’t have to select sport each time you get into it.

6. Everyone hates auto start right? Seems particularly stupid on a diesel.

7. Stop trying to sell me subscriptions GM.

Mine spent the first 8/10 weeks of of its life in the shop with electrical issues. I was told a wire run had been run wrong and was shorting out. There was another bad harness and a bad module as well. And I’m still waiting on the chip that controls the radar functions (back up alarms, cruise control thingy).

The truck looks cool as hell and is pretty good off-road but I’m thinking this will be a short term ownership experience for me until I trade it for something else. I do like the diesel motor though.

Here is my list of things I hate about my truck...(Refresh 2022)
- Both from seats should be powered and memory drivers seat for a 68K truck.
- Passenger seat is too low - had to order and install a kit to raise it.
- No LED tail lights -Damn RST comes with them
- No power folding mirrors
- Auto dimming rear mirrors is an option...unless you get the ugly towing mirrors. really?
- Paint issues on hood - New truck should not have these paint issues, although it is only where the new hood scoop thing is attached to the hood. Mine was also built in Mexico. Received by Chevy Customer quality survey today and it took me an hour to fill out... My 2019 Z06 paint is perfect!
- Shifter is too sensitive...accidentally put it in manual mode all the time. Should have to push side button to place it into manual mode
- No 12 Volt Outlet for radar detector. Ordered wiring harness to plug directly into mirror

Other than those items I love the truck. First new silverado since 2011 which my son is still driving. The power of the 6.2 is great...wife complains she is speeding all the time without realizing it.

Now keep in mind I traded in a fully loaded Land Rover Discovery which had all the bells and whistles...just not dependable and once the warranty expired, it had to go so I guess I might have been a little spoiled.

If I could only change one thing about the trail boss .....it would be having them equipped with a actual selectable locker not the auto locker it comes with... like to be locked up when driving into a offroad situation, and not wait for wheel spin ...Ford has had it available on the F150’s for a number of years now and dodge just started as well.... ZR2 has both front and rear selectable lockers .... wonder if a selectable locker can be added to the front differential.
They should offer something like an LTZ Trail Boss that offers e-lockers and other amenities like power folding mirrors. Something that is still cheaper than the ZR2 at the end of the day.

It is availability of chips behind why some electronic items are being deleted from trucks. They don't have enough chips so if they eliminate the need for X number of chips per truck it allows them to build and sell more trucks total. They are deleting chips for the least popular features or those that require a higher number of chips. The price point is of no concern to GM at this point cause they sale at msrp or over with no problem with in days on all the upper models and MSRP does not seem to be doing anything but going up.
Thanks for the explanation, makes sense.

Confession: My 22 refreshed TB is replacing a Discovery as well. I've had 6 LR Discovery's and my last one (a 2020) towed great and had all the bells and whistles... until the engine blew at 25K. Tell me about lifter problems???? 🤣

Lack of auto folding mirrors and manual passenger seat are the two that I really feel should have been included with LT Trail Boss. Love the truck and doubt I will ride passenger seat much so I think I will survive.

Hey GM, are you reading this thread? We are telling you how to make your truck even better than the awesome truck it is. Are you listening??

1) So much computer controlled stuff you'd think a computer sensor would have closed my sunroof when it started raining inside my truck. Okay GM, I'll give you this one. Absent minded owner forgot to close the sunroof and went to bed (In fairness I had just worked 2 days on about 3 hrs sleep. I was lucky I made it home alive).

2) You allow me to turn off those rediculously hideous daytime running lights with a switch. So why do I have to do it every freaking time I start my truck?

3) Same issue as above with selecting sport mode. For the love of God let us set something in our vehicle without it doing a factory reset every time the truck is turned off.

4) 1,000,000 way adjustable driver's seat with no memory. Try hitting that perfect 1,000,000 way setting after someone moves it. GM, you've forced me to threaten people's lives if they touch my seat. I will absolutely stab the person who moves my seat off that sweet spot, forcing me to play with those 1,000,000 adjustments for the next month trying to get it just right again. Ugh GM, really??

5) 110v power outlets that produce no power (would this be an oxymoron calling it a "power" outlet?) Nothing I've plugged into my outlets have worked.

6) Forcing me into yet another monthly subscription service (OnStar) if I want certain features in my truck to work. Like I want to pay you $40 a month so I can lock/unlock my doors and set off the alarm/start the vehicle with my phone just to screw with my brother when he borrows my truck. I'd like to screw with his sanity for free thank you very much.

We love you GM but don't think you're truck is 100% flawless. There is room for improvement if you will listen.

Oh, and I forgot about the brake pedal being half a mile higher than the gas pedal preventing me from pivoting my foot from pedal to pedal. This slows my reaction time down and is a major safety issue in my opinion. GM, did you do this on purpose to create a "delay" between my break pedal and gas pedal so auto stop/start has a chance to restart my truck anytime I take my foot off the brake and hit the gas?? Mary Bara, you need to call me. We need to talk.

The black hood insert on the 22' refresh. It serves no purpose beyond "looking cool". In my experience, its only detracted from the truck. It adds to the height of the hood, its chewing through the paint in the corners, and the high gloss finish reflects the sun into your eyes. Beyond the insert, Im loving everything else!

Apply a matte vinyl on top and slide some thin rubber or silicone pieces between the scoop and hood👍

This is my 4th GM truck. It is my favorite one so far, aside from my 13' Avalanche. If I had to pick a gripe with it, I would really only be the lack of power folding mirrors (my Avalanche had them), and I loved that about it. The size of the bed was what sucked about that truck.

After 45k on my 2021 I’ve had zero issues. Not a single trip to the dealership except for service. I had a 16 and never had it in for anything but service either. Maybe you just got a lemon.

Exactly, This is my 10th Chevy and I still haven’t had a problem..I do read and worry a little..😂🇺🇸

My only complaint on my 22 refresh 6.2 is the absolute blaring chimes inside and outside the truck every time you open or close the power tailgate. Dang thing chimes long after its closed. Anyone know any tricks to disable it? I've googled it for hours and found a setting to turn the chime volume down, but it didn't help much.

No power folding mirrors. My '06 LT even had them.
Interior lights are extremely dim. If they were bulbs, they would have been switched my first week.
As with each generation, less lighting. My '01 had under the hood light, glove box light and interior footwell lights.
No 12v cig lighter outlet
Apple Carplay starts automatically when I get in the truck. I don't need my young daughter hearing the music I listen to as soon as the truck starts.
