Which Trail Boss should I buy

If you do get the roarpedal, I storongly recommenned the bluetooth version so you can use your phone to adjust. You can also go to the "lock" setting and nobody will steal it as it disables the accelerator. Price for the bluetooth is $169.99 but the black Friday deal knocks off $35.

Great info, Thanks

I’ll say this, I ordered a 2023 Chevy 3.0 a year ago I joined this forum and very few people on this forum had a diesel a few have joined since but the majority of the people here own a 5.3 or 6.2. If you want mileage go diesel. My truck burned an extra quart of oil the first oil change. A half quart the second and I didn’t add any on the third oil change, it’s common for them to burn oil until the rings seat, the highway mileage has been 25-28 and around 22 in the town I live in, I have pulled 5k from Louisiana to utah pulling 70mph and holding going up Eisenhower tunnel, the exhaust brake also works good for a light duty engine. I have had zero issues in 13,000 miles, I use about 1 gallon of def per 1000 miles empty or light towing. Hook a heavy trailer up and tow hard and you might burn 1/2 gallon an hour, which probably isn’t any different than a 3/4 ton diesel I would imagine. I also like how good these engines fire up in sub zero temperatures, and warms up at a decent rate especially with the shutters in front of the radiatior. Lots of people seemed concerned for the belt on the back of the transmission that lasts for 200k pulling the tranny to replace. My truck has the same power and torque roughly as my old 2002 duramax, the trailboss is lighter, better mpg and 10 speed on the trailboss.I love my duramax and wouldn’t trade it for gas, I am sure most gas people feel the same way about diesel.

I had 6.6 diesel in my 08 2500 and loved it. If that was an option I would have jumped on it. I never liked the idea of small motors in big trucks. The 3.0 seemed to small for the job. Glad to see it isn’t and that you’re happy with it.

I do miss the Allison transmissions much smoother in the 6.6, I have been super impressed by the power and immediate throttle response.

Is cylinder deactivation causing lifter failure this a thing to worry about on the 2023s? should I be worried about buy one?
No. Bad lifters from supplier that lead to a TSB for a range of build dates for 2020-2021, iirc. GM didn't screw up. The supplier did. It had nothing to do with AFM/DFM.

Sounds like you’re in the Navy. 😊 All those areas have bases. Haha

I envy you. My grandsons are here so it’s hard to leave Cali. I like them that much.

I love the 6.2 Definitely notice the power. Wish they offered the 6.0 diesel. That would have been great.
My wife is Navy. I'm a veteran of the men's department. I met her after getting out of the Marines. She joined the Navy about 3 years after we got married.

I'll throw my .02 cents in. I had a 21 Trailboss with the 6.2. It had the GM Performance "intake" and "exhaust". I paired that with a Pulsar LT and turned off the auto stop, as well as the DFM from time to time. It was an absolute rocket. Loved the power and the sound. Used premium and got about 14.7 mpg for the 18K that I owned it. ( I did have a fair amount of around town lawn mower trailer towing which didn't help though) Other than a valve spring breaking at 200 miles (yes 200 miles in) I had zero issues.

Traded it for a 23 AT4 with the 3.0. I miss the get up and go of the 6.2, but the little Duramax is no slouch either. I get about 16mpg towing the trailer around town (according to my trailer mileage readout) and usually about 22-24mph in the interstate at 80mph plus. Country roads at the speed limit are 28-30mpg. Hard to beat that. Diesel is about the same price as premium here, and I don't even factor in the DEF as I rarely have to fill it up.

I'm a big fan of the 6.2, but I have NO regrets going to the 3.0

Haha “men’s department”. Never heard that one.

My dad was a Marine DI. Me and my 3 brothers thought we were marines. In summer I had to dig 10’ of ditch to get to go play with my friends after 😂

The Navy was a vacation for me and a means to finally get running water. 😂

If you can find one, get the 6.2l. I love my 5.3l, but I wasn't patient enough to wait for my local dealer to get one in stock.

Did your dad ever make you eat crayons? Red is my favorite flavor? Crayons taste better than MREs.
