6.2 recall

Mine is going in for inspection tomorrow morning. I really hope it’s just the oil change and send me on my way… 10-2023 build date, 2024 MY.

It passed. Got the oil change and cleared the air filter code and went back to work fairly relieved. The service advisor did say that the extended warranties are being published by VIN (only after you’ve had the inspection) so he didn’t have any info on it yet.

It passed

Service manager stated “the engine was so early in the manufacturing process (for this recall) he wouldn’t be surprised for a failure. Every 6.2 engine they have tested using this recall process has passed.”

That’s not reassuring, if they are all passing is it a valid test for this issue? How many are failing AFTER the test?

They can’t find the reason for the check engine light/reduced power caution lights. According to the service tech the code was similar to vehicle being jump started but it hasn’t been jumped. They are going to keep for a couple of days to see if it shows up.

Not sure what to do but probably going to be selling it sooner rather than later.

never mind the age...check ALL ground connections and battery leads. lots of known issues with GM having poorly placed grounds, loos grounds and cable that decay right under the insulation

It honestly has me wonder how much bigger the media has made this than it really is. I personally don't know of anyone who experienced any of the issues related to this recall. I haven't had a single issue with my 6.2 since I bought it brand new. 71,000 miles later, towing 8500 pounds at least 350 miles every year.

Doing a quick search says approximately 28,102 field complains and 14,332 incidents of engine failure were reported between March 21 and February 25 with failures often being linked to bearing failure in the crank.

Of those, there were 12 crashes linked but no injuries of fatalities.

Take that with a grain of salt since it was from a simple Google search. However, how many does it take to be considered "not overblown?"

My 2022 Silverado ZR2 was tested and passed but then started making an intermittent tapping noise along with a whirring noise. I said screw it and traded it in before it became something bigger.

Between those years (21-25) potentially over 877,000 6.2L produced, so based on the 28k field complaints, a roughly 3.1% chance an individual 6.2L is affected. Lines up with GM estimates of 3%. (Also just googled numbers)

I don’t know if that makes it overblown or not. Not trying to argue one way or the other either, just information. Also, that’s just what we know about or has been reported. Also have to consider outside that date range.

100% a lot of variables there. Also doesnt tell how many are waiting to die even after the 0W40 oil. But with it being a known issue and GM just band aiding it, it makes anyone weary.

Mine is a 2021, delivery in April 21, 1st engine failed in December 2021. Now I know it’s for the same issue as this recall. At the time I took it as a one off issue but now know GM has known about it for years. They finally issued a recall when the feds forced them. My biggest issue is GM failure to address quality issues in a timely manner, deny a problem until forced and leaving their customers hanging.
