An Oil Change Won't Fix GM's V8 Issues, New Lawsuit Says | Carscoops
Ten owners are suing GM, calling its recall plan for V8-powered trucks and SUVs inadequate
That's interesting, I have actually been using Mobil 1's FS formula since this recall came out. My engine pre-dates the affected engines too, I just figured if clearances were never the issue with the affected motors, then mine can safely take 0W-40 too. I actually liked that the FS formula had more zinc in it than the Supercar oil, and is much cheaper. The extra phosphorous could be bad for the catalytic converters, but no issues so far lol.
Do you go longer with your oil filters without changing every time you change your oil? I have read, specifically, Amsoil brand (extended filters, i.e., 15,000 or 25,000 miles based on severe usage or not) that it can be "better" to keep the filter intact if using any of the extended "type" oil filters when doing an oil change up to the rated mileage. I have yet to do this, but I was considering going 10,000 miles on the 15,000 mile rated filter and include doing an oil analysis on that use oil.being the nay sayer i tend to be....i have held on to the last couple of oil filters. Truck currently has 47K ish miles....
i have the last 2 filters, both being before the health check and oil swap and soon to have one after. i finally took the time to cut open both of the previous filters....oil always changed right at 5K miles...to my surprise, zero particles, zero debris and honey golden colored residual oil.
for now, any fears i had, are all but gone...time to start playing with tuning, cams and compressors....
Thanks for the info. I may just try it once or twice going 10,000 miles with the specifically rated filter and do an oil analysis to see what my numbers show. I'll let you know.I change both, and have always done so at 5K miles....been this way this the early 2000's with synthetics.
i understand that most probably cant swing doing earlier service intervals...but that fluid id the life blood and being filtered and clean can never hurt. Change it sooner rather than later...as will all fluids, especially the unfiltered ones.
i was just mentioning that i had held on 2 the last couple of filters with the 5-20 oil and possible bearing debris. to my surprise, i saw zero signs of wear material....it restored some faith in the engine life being long and healthy. Know to remove the junk valve train items, and hopefully have a long engine life we all expect for these $$$.
Damn! I guess I will see how my test analysis looks this next oil change. Thanksmyself and few others years ago, ran Amsoil and there filters in our Ram Cummins trucks....doing samples to evaluate how long the interval could go, without them recommending a change...we were able to push 25K miles. Sure there were top offs for the samples taken...but each sample sent was returned with recommendations of an additional 5K...until that 25K mark.
