Active Fuel Management

My 2021 5.3L TB has Active Fuel Management (AFM) and it says exactly that on the Sticker (I just went and checked again.)

Active Fuel Management (AFM) is where the engine can shut down Four (4) of the cylinders. This was developed by Cadillac many years ago.

Dynamic Fuel Management (DFM) is where the engine can shut down more than just four cylinders. This is apparently installed on vehicles of a higher comparable Trim Level than the Custom trim level of my truck.

edit: clstark7 and I posted at the same time, to help clarify the info.
2nd_edit: for comparison, I always get 19.5 or better MPG with AFM active, and I have seen nearly 26 MPG driving across northern Arizona.

So I bought a 2021 TB which is the same year of the chip shortage (plus it was built for Canada). Im trying to figure out if it has it or not. I know most have a logo in the controll center that goes from V8 to V4 when it cuts on and I cant find anything like that. Mine was built in January 2021 and March of that year is when they stopped it. Any idea on something I can see/find that would tell me if it has DFM? I dont have the origial window sticker and my TB is a Custom.

I believe the window sticker mentions it. You can also hear it if you listen carefully, especially as you come rolling to a full stop. If it has it, you should be able to hear the engine get a little louder as you come to that stop. That's because all the cylinders reactivate in preparation for an accelaration from a full stop.

I have a 2020 Trail Boss 5.3.
I was just looking at the window sticker and mine does not mention AFM anywhere. Do ALL 2020 5.3's have this?
I'm hoping mine doesn't :) but I probably couldn't get that lucky. My truck was from Canada if that makes a difference?

Mine is too. Im pretty certain that the Custom versions dont have it, where the LT line did.

Chance is that you have DFM and not AFM. If it wasn't installed you would have a credit for it.

My truck is a Canadian truck and it does not mention DFM on my window sticker either, but I'm pretty sure I have it. If not, I wasted a lot of money on the Pulsar.

As I mentioned, my 2021 Custom Trail Boss does indeed have AFM, and this is shown as a Manufacturer Option on the Sticker.
It says that the 5.3L Ecotec3 engine with Active Fuel Management was an option priced at $1,395.

LoL! The VIN # for mine shows it with a V6, but once ya lift the hood there are clearly 8 cylinders!

What’s your best MPG listing so far? I want to test my theory lol
So with 437 mi of mostly (80% est.) daily short trip, city & suburban driving I'm getting 12.7 mi. avg. Pretty disappointing. I have some longer highway trips planned in the next 2 weeks so curious to see what I get.

Just got back from a trip to the mountains of WV. Lots of highway driving, some snowy roads and 4WD slower driving. Also very windy and I don't have a tonneau cover. I got like 16 mpg on the way there and 17.5 on way home. My high on the highway stretch was up to 17.8.

I have a 2020 custom 5.3 w C/A intake, flapper delete and flowmaster, it does have Dfm. Afm was before 2019.
It is standard from Gm. I also have a disabiler and I like it better that way. Plus sounds normal. Lol
I also added a lower Thermostat for the transmission...cool as a cucumber. Temp never goes over 150
