GM Finally recalling '21-24 6.2L V8's

It would be nice, but I doubt it since my dealer sold me a non GM extended warranty. I purchased one to cover the length of the loan for 7 years and 100,000 miles.

have to love the GM 'CYA" clauses....Low oil level at time of checking....Make sure you top of the oil prior to your service appointment.
Remember, GM claims oil consumption is normal....but that amount seems to vary

oh, and if you do have a lifter tick or valve train noise....your SOL as well, that is another issue all together....
Hilarious, my TB 6.2 burns oil like a two-stroke leaf blower. New $70,000 truck and I need to top off the oil before taking in for a recall. I'll never buy another GM truck... never

All these people and their "my truck burns oil"! Mine doesn't use a drop. Always at the full level it was at when I change the oil before I change it again. I'm thinking people don't pay attention to the break in procedure in the owners manual. People complained about this in the LS1 engines back in the 4th gen F bodies. I never have had an issue with that using any oil and I bought that brand new and followed the break in procedure.

i can say, mine has never used a drop....and i am not the lightest foot.

even my catch can (installed day one) only sees about 3-4 oz of overall fluid between oil change

Ditto, my oil is still full when I drop it at 5,000 miles. Proper break-in is key! So is good quality oils and fuels.

I can say that mine “hasn’t” burned any oil yet but would clearly understand that there could easily be engines out there that do. GM isn’t doing this recall because they are all fine.

I realize could be different issue but highly don’t GM quality control issues are only around the bearings. If they aren’t paying attention to something that critical who knows what else they overlooked.

Been a GM owner for 30 years but that may change sooner rather than later.

My '22 with 30k burns about 2 qts between changes, and it has been pampered since day 1. We'll see what happens.

pampered maybe the issue....sadly, sometimes to break in a new engine....cylinder pressure is needed to seat the rings.

we put BRAND NEW V-twins right to the dyno and go like hell....it wears and seats the rings beautifully.

It's been driven per specs. "Pampered" relates to not being beaten.

"My truck burns oil". I change my oil at 5,000 mile intervals and if I don't add 1-1.5 quarts somewhere along the way it's a no-show on the dipstick at every oil change.

does the truck throw any low oil level/pressure warnings/lights when it is low by 1qt or more?

This isn't the 60's or 70's anymore. Engines are DESIGNED to be driven to redline. This is actually needed to properly seat the rings. Barely passing 3k RPM's does the engine no good.

GM ISSUES...these are off the top of what i see the most common to be

5.3 & 6.2 Possible lifter failure, 10 spd trans issues
6.2 crank & rod bearings CAN be out of spec
2.7 it has some but dont follow those to close
3.0 trans temp issues, some fuel system (if i recall)
Any information here is great, I have a broken down 5.3 that is currently at a Dealership with 10k quote on rebuild of both sides due to thrown rod and bad lifters. Warranty purchased when bought vehicle. Just hit 73k miles when issues happened. Been religious on oil changes and recommended work. Still looking like my portion will be above the 4k mark. Called Chevy to express concern and they opened a case on it. Any replies greatly appreciated.

@ColahouseNC a few year back, the same thing happened to my wife's 2015 LTZ 5.3.... just over 5 yrs old, 75k miles. The truck was babied and had religious 5k synthetic oil changes and dealer service since new. There was a known issue with the 5.3 at that time and a couple of service bulletins but our VIN was just out of the claimed affected range. I raised holy hell with the dealer, then directly with GM. They fought me tooth and nail but eventually gave us the parts at no cost and a break on the labor. It was still a couple of grand out of pocket.
