Hood scoop / paint damage

Just had the evaluation done this week on my 22 TB Northsky Blue. Typical amount of paint missing on all four contact areas after 1000 miles.

First time this particular dealer has heard about it (allegedly). Body shop has a good reputation. They couldn't find the fix documentation but when I presented PIT5930 they verified it. Body shop manager asked what the fix was and I explained the foam tape. He shrugged but seemed to think it would work. They can't get me in until 5/22 so hopefully it doesn't get much worse. I figure if it turns out bad or doesn't last, I will go aftermarket hood. I mean what other options are there??

My ‘23 has paint chipping along the hood scoop, it’s along the front side and not the corners. Figured they had addressed it, but seems to not be the case.

Was built in Jan and delivered in Feb. Only has 60 miles thus far as I haven’t been driving it.

Why the hell did you buy a truck if you're not going to drive it? That's a VERY expensive piece of yard art.

Crazy they haven't fixed the issue in the 23's. I saw a '23 ZR2 in my town and I wanted to asked the guy if he had the same issue but I didn't. Could you imagine dropping that much money and having that same issue? On my Custom '22.5 TB it's annoying but I can deal with it. :D

I'm wondering when mine is built 6 months from now if they'll have the fix in place from the factory.

Dealer repaired my hood last month. My truck is black and they did a great job on the repair. They had it about a week and the holdup was waiting for chevy to send them the kit that goes between the scoop and the hood. Really can't tell much difference...scoop might sit a little higher than before but overall I'm happy with it. They also paid for a rental car for the week.

Do you happen to know the kit part number? I am taking mine in on 5/22 and this is the first time this dealer has done the fix. I would like to call ahead and make sure they have the kit on order. TIA.

Do idea what the part number was...sorry. The dealership said mine was the first they did also. I would just call a couple days ahead of the appointment and confirm they have the parts kit. I would also ask about getting a loaner or rental on their dime.

Just talked to dealer a week out from appointment to repaint hood. Dealer says they haven't seen a released bulletin on the fix so no parts kit. How is it that one dealer can have the parts kit and the other one can't? And one dealer can see the bulletin is released and the other one can't? Now dealer paint shop (independent of dealer service) says they are hesitant to spray the hood without a documented fix so if it is caused by a vibration issue he might have to spray it again and he can only bill GM for warranty money once without an official bulletin. Which old videos (new to me) suggest that they are coming from the factory this way and it is not a vibration issue.

This is beyond frustrating. So what do I do? Have him paint the hood now and hope the fix lasts. Or wait until GM releases an official bulletin so if the problem comes back he can fix it again with the promise of GM warranty dollars.

Aargh!

I’d print out the PIT 5930A and show it to the dealer. I did and after a couple attempts the dealer had the damage fixed. So far so good.

I did it myself and made a gasket all the way around the hood where the scoop rests on top and left one small gap on each corner for water to drain with the amazon tape that they recommend fits like a glove and there no rubbing between hood and scoop now ,sometimes you have to do thing yourself and not rely on gm

Where can I get a copy of PIT5930A? It isn't posted on the GM website as far as I know. Do you have a link or a .pdf?

I have an appointment to get the hood painted at the dealer on 5/22. But they say without a documented fix they will paint it only once under warranty. So I need the document in hand and they need to kit parts to fix it for the fix to be covered (in case it happens again). I talked to them today and they say PIT5930A isn't released and there is no parts kit.

So you painted the hood yourself? I don't have the setup or the skills for that unfortunately.

I get that... I know it's been over a year since the issue started but I still feel like I should wait for a documented fix from GM so I'm covered.

I got a buddy who paints Peterbilt's for a living and he has a painter friend with ties to GM that is going to see if I can at least get a copy of PIT5930A with the fix. I can't find it posted anywhere. I have PIT5930 that describes the problem.
