What's new

Let's see those Trail Boss trucks towing!

Towed this home last Saturday. I do not know what they weights were but the truck towed great. It was a lot better than the 2011 I had before.

Don’t have a picture, but something to ask… So I have the 5.3. Don’t know the weight, but I have enough to completely take the rake out. I started to hear a loud ticking and thought I might be hearing the valves at first.. then I started to think it was the injectors.. I came to realize that garbage gas was causing a the noise. I have been using premium gas and the noise has since gone away. I’m guessing that, while towing (up hills) my motor gets hot enough, that the gas isn’t stable enough to wait for the spark plug. Anyone else have this with a 5.3?

Don’t have any issues with pinging or loss of power using 87 octane. Added a set of airlift bags and the difference was amazing at 40 psi. Will post pictures later but went with the 5000+ ultimate set with the braided steel lines.

I tow a 7500 pound travel trailer often. I run 89 octane everyday (factory recommend for 5.3). When i am towing I run 91 just for the extra push. Regardless, my engine temps stay solid, almost never goes up at all. I monitor trany temps wich will change some on long hill climbs but never to anything concerning. It tows like a rock. Maybe it was "garbage gas"? But maybe not the octane? Read your gauges. It should not be heating up or making noise. Do you always get fuel at the same place?

Kind Regards,

Steve

I added the Airlift Loadlifter 5000 Ultimate Plus kit on the truck and it took any bounce out of the rear end while towing. Made it a bit stiff without the trailer on it but I keep the bags at 3psi and no issues normal driving. At 40psi the bags worked perfectly with the weight distribution hitch and sway bar set up. Definitely recommend them and it was only 4 hours for the install in the driveway.

2520 total weight, with approx. 800 tongue weight Of course it pulls it as if noting is behind it.

Yup 1950 Sedan Custom. Currently repairing the floors, rewiring, and doing a 12V conversion. Already did a front disc conversion with dual reservoir master cylinder.
