What's new

What did you do to your Trailboss today? 🛠️

I need to get my exhaust tips removed to be powder coated. I noticed that when you take that step off my truck has a sensor that unbolts off of the bumper step, I'm assuming it is the lane departure sensor. My question is, what are you doing with that sensor hanging there while your tips are being coated? I don't want to drive it for a day or two with those sensors dangling in the rear bumper.

Upgraded license plate lights to LED. Next up are reverse and then turn signal.

I haven't ordered the turn signal bulbs yet because of mixed responses with canbus errors.
Which bulbs did you go with on the plate? I'd like to get LED reverse bulbs too.

Added my old front plate from my old truck to the TB this afternoon. Looks a little beat up. May have to get a new one.

Today I am again washing, drying, strip-washing, polishing and might even get to the surface prep and ceramic stuff.
Chemical Guys, Adam's and Shine Armor products.

edit: And the Clay MITT! Wow, this works great. The Adam's Clay Mitt is so easy to use!

I'm not sure how well the various "spray-on ceramic" products hold up, over time, but we might want to clay mitt regularly. I'm using some Spray Detailer that I already had (Mothers) so I didn't order Chemical Guys, nor Adam's, Clay Lube spray. Instructions for clay bars or mitts explained that just about any spray detailer will work.

And broke out the electric polisher. Got all the grit with the clay mitt, now it says to polish out swirls before surface prep and then the "graphene ceramic"*.
But that won't be today. Got enough done today. (Bottled/corked a batch of Watermelon-Berry wine, 30 - 750ml bottles.) :)

(* - "graphene ceramic" ... Right. I'm skeptical that these products actually have what they say ... but maybe that's because I haven't researched it.)

edit2: Guess I can start here:
I've been looking at Adam's ceramic mitt but wasn't sure how it would work. So you would definitely recommend it?

Yes, the Mitt from Adam's is definitely worth it. I used a clay bar on my vette, and it didn't last long. Dropping a clay bar ruins it if you're working outdoors, because it picks up dirt and grit. The mitt is more difficult to drop, and it just washes off. It's amazing how well it works even though it isn't nearly as sticky as a clay bar. And the Clay Mitt is FAST ... much faster over a larger area. This makes the job much easier.

The mitt seems like it will last quite a while. And the super-smooth finish is great. Now all I have to do is use a Detail Spray and a Cloth, or a Wash mitt and the foam gun, and all of the grit from just a few days driving is once again removed from the paint. Removing dust is easy with a car dust brush. And the Glass areas stay cleaner as well. Everything is a lot less prone to water spots. (Yes, the mitt works on glass in a way that a clay bar will not, AFAIK.)

It is the side detection sensor. It snaps off at the sensor. Be careful. I had to change that sensor for another reason. Now its a problem. I have to go to a dealer to have the new one programed to calibrate it. Most shops don't have the computer programs to do it. I found one that does and they quoted $382.00 to hook it up. I don't know how much the dealer is going to charge. You will be hooking up the same OEM sensor it came with so maybe it will be OK? I don't know. My replacement was GM OEM but I still have to have it programed so the electronics can read it. I would not disconnect it. Remove the sensor with the screw in the step and secure it in the bumper while the tips are out.

LT package is nice too.. just my experience having had both… power seat, center console, Bose , heated steering wheel, steering wheel controls ,power rear window, rear air , led lights, leather which I still use seat covers …not a big price jump Just nice to have … but when I had my base 2017 Sierra 4x4 it was good and it had led headlamps from factory …may just me now at my older age … I still love my 89 K5 Blazer( 30yrs with it) , which has none of that ..
