GM Finally recalling '21-24 6.2L V8's

the 2025 MODEL YEAR trucks are supposed to have been corrected. Why the STOP SALE is enforced, i cannot answer.
the CAUSES are vague and very conflicting....the claim was tight tolerances on crank bearings, yet the few that have had the chance to get inside the engine, have not seen bearing failures or excessive wear, it has been failed mechanical parts...wrist pin retaining rings NOT INSTALLED, or the land area just sheared off allowing the wrist pin to walk and score the cylinder.

GM STATES an inspection will be performed, that being MIL CODE, related to crank position sensor. Now, does that mean it can detect the drag caused by a walking pin or is that just an excuse to get the vehicle in and scope a cylinder looking for damage ???

i would prefer and may perform the later this weekend, just to look inside as mine has not thrown any codes.

again, there are literally hundreds of thousands of these motors will no issue, you always here about the bad, and discredit all the good

The stop sale is only on the effected trucks prior to the engine changes. New 2025's are NOT effected by the stop sale.

I called 2 dealerships today here in houston and both said that they are not yet taking appointments for the 6.2l recall because GM has not given them the official fix at this time.

Apparently there are 3 different service bulletins on this recall. 001 which I previously posted which is the inspect for the code and change the oil and filter with 0W40. Now bulletin 002 was posted which details replacing the engine but keeping 0W20 oil. Apparently these are VIN specific as to which recall applies to which vehicle. From what I've read, 000 bulletin hasn't been released yet. Below are the 002 bulletin and FAQs:

so every 6.2 under current warranty, built prior to July 1/2 2024 essentially will be getting replaced if under 60K miles..... interesting.

I don't even think it matters what the current warranty status is. Any of the effected VINs will be replaced is what it sounds like to me.

Yes, I read it and it sounds like automatic engine replacement is only for a specified VIN range. The other VIN ranges are inspect only. I'm curious as to what the numbers are..... how big is the range for automatic replacement? My truck is a 2025 that had a September 2024 build date.... that makes me wonder when the engine was actually built.

How many 6.2L owner's are on this Forum? I am one of them. 2022 LTD 6.2 TB. And I have had zero problems with my engine. 26,000 miles so far so fairly new. Just curious how many owner's with the 6.2 have had the engine recall problem? Again just curious.

2021 6.2 with 31,600 miles and no issues. Mine falls at the tail end of the bad lifter situation and the beginning of the bad bearing/crankshaft/connecting rod issues.

Engines that pass inspection will also receive a new special coverage program that extends warranty protection for 10 years or 150,000 miles from the vehicle’s in-service date, whichever comes first.
Meanwhile, vehicles that receive a new replacement engine will not be given the extended coverage.

i'm getting so pissed reading this thread because I bought our '25 in November of 2024.... which probably means it was assembled in Aug/Sept '24.... which probably means the engine was manufactured a few months before that. I'm going to raise hell the next time i'm in the dealer and try and get the engine inspected and if it passes i'm going to request the 10/150k coverage. I doubt we'll have the truck that long but it's just the point. I've already had an engine and a transmission go on our last two Silverados, respectively. Enough is enough.

2021 TB 6.2

First engine replaced in 2021 (8k) because debris left over from the engine build that scored the main bearings. Started a low rpm tic, service manager couldn’t hear it but senior tech could. They had the truck a month. New engine, oil lines, oil cooler etc.

No issues since but getting old. If I love the truck and have a lot invested would looking to trade

I have a '21 with 50k miles and no issues.... I also drive it like I stole it!!!
