GM Finally recalling '21-24 6.2L V8's

So.... according to the guy in the video you can not buy, sell or trade a '21-'24 6.2l at a dealership? But I see plenty for sale on dealership websites. I also called a dealership and asked if I could trade in my '21 6.2l TB and they replied ofcorse and offered me $ 40k unseen. This make sense to anyone else??

I doubt GM wants to validate the loss of value that’s impacting the 6.2 powered vehicles. Who knows what the impact to the value of these vehicles is going to be? Even with replacement the damage is done for some buyers, especially after warranty.

There is a class action lawsuit out of Illinois that mirrors my scenario. First engine started making noise at 9k and was created by “debris” which scored the main and rod bearings. They implied it was debris from construction but now I wonder. I certainly wouldn’t want to head out of town with this vehicle.

I would consider trading but not sure I want to take the loss with all the mods. Then what to buy? Been a Chevrolet owner for 40 yrs.

I read a story today that was implying other GM engines could be added. Not sure if thats true but since this has been going on since e 2022 and GM has botched this so bad how do you know what’s true.

To me the guy in the video is an idiot and totally didn't interpret the bulletins correctly. He's NOT a GM Tech, just a mechanic in a general automotive shop. The DEALERS can't sell or trade the effected vehicles. They HAVE to replace the engines before reselling them. So if they take one on trade in, it has to sit until they replace the engine.

Ray was indeed a GM tech for many years in FL before opening his own shop, and through his contacts, he was able to acquire that updated GM notification.

Yeah, that same bulletin was posted here by me as another GM tech posted it on GM Trucks website. His explanation is COMPLETELY different than what the guy in the video explained. The campaign open on my truck is in the 000 bulletin, which hasn't been released to anyone yet. There's no information on what it contains or what the resolution is. Dealer inventory gets new motors for the effected units. Customer vehicles get inspected and if deemed faulty will get new engine, otherwise get oil change and 10 year 150k warranty on engine. GM has ramped up engine production on the 6.2s to cover the demand for replacements. There has not been a stop driving order issued by GM, so all this "The sky is falling, you're going to die if you drive it" is a bunch of BS. These vehicles have electric steering which will continue to operate if the engine dies. From all accounts I have read, if the engine seizes, the transmission goes to neutral. Power brakes will be the only compromised system.

I reached out to my service advisor at a GM dealer and the stated:

All GM has told us is there are a few different categories these vehicles will fall under and once they get them sorted out we will be able to perform the remedy. They have not told us to replace anything or put anyone on a list. All our bulletin says is there is no remedy available, once there is one available they will send out more information.

There is still considerable risk to drivers and occupants of these vehicles if the engine quits. It’s all about where it happens and traffic around you. High speed with limited or no shoulder still not it’s you stranded in a high risk scenario.

It’s also about confidence to load the family in a vehicle and head out on Summer vacation with some confidence. Granted anything can happens to any vehicle but asked my service advisory if it was safe to take cross country and the silence was golden.

Obviously there is enough risk that GM is spending billions trying to fix.

All indications are this started in 2021 and it’s just now coming to light. Doesn’t imply confidence.

I'm no mechanic and have no idea what any of these bulletins mean but here is whats going to happen for me. I will drive the truck daily to work. We will take the truck on vacation next month 460 miles round trip and drive it down the beach 50+ miles each of the 4 day we are there. I will race of the line at every stop sign red light or any other chance I get. I will treat the truck the same way I have for the last 50k miles. I do not have another vehicle to drive nor the resources to aquire a long term rental. I'm not saying I am ignoring all the recall information floating around but I will not let it affect my life or enjoyment of driving my truck. If it blows up well I guess it was GM's fault (or maybe my fault) but It will go down swinging!

That's my stance as well! 60,000 miles in and no issues so far, I am not worried about driving it while we wait on updates from GM. I'd be happy with a new engine or the 10-year/150,000 mile warranty because it's been running well anyways! Quality fluids and letting my cold-start RPM's die down before slapping it into gear are simple actions for longevity, and it seems to have worked so far. And I like smashing that throttle too!

you may be out of luck, i want to say that if you make it through the initial 60K/5yr....your on your own, unless it is mandated...which currently, it is voluntary

The engines that are failing isn’t due to the oil or maintenance. It’s because of poor manufacturing. One is reported to have failed at less than 10 miles.

Unless you’re planning on hanging on to it forever the short and long term value of pre-recall 6.2 is going to take a hit. A replacement with extended warranty may help but….

Love the truck and the performance of the 6.2 but didn’t spend 60k to have 3 engines in less that 35k miles.

i have had 2 failures in the family...one for lifters, one for crank issues. go read what is happing...not all are manufacturing TOLERANCES, some are due to thin oil selection. some are due to debris, others are out of spec components.

"I" believe this is why very little is happening, GM trying to pin down the actual issue per VIN run (if possible), to eliminate as much of a hit a possible. Remember, AAM is or could be just as much a part, and responsible for some of this...it will go back in them, just not by name as loud.
If it does, you may see AAM go up for sale...

Agree the AAM is an issue. Read yesterday that Trump is talking about eliminating the EPA requirement through EO. That doesn’t mean the OEMs are going redesign all their engines but a good start.

My dealer stated that they believe that GM is slow rolling this while they try to ramp up engine production. If they rolled it out now their lots will be full while they wait for new engines. In addition GM will be publicly acknowledging liability for every failure that occurs till replacement.

I traded my 2022 6.2L in 2 days before the recall was announced.
Dealer told me they now have to warehouse it and sit on it till the engine is replaced because they legally can't sell it.

Perfect timing!

Good for you

Wonder who will get engines first? Dealer and GM vehicles or customer vehicles?
