What's new

What did you do to your Trailboss today? 🛠️

Anyone have a Rough Country cover? I'm specifically looking at the low profile hard folding and the retractable. Leaning towards the folding. Wondering how the quality is and if it keeps water out.
I have the retractable on mine, wish I would have went with something else. It's not worth what you will pay for it, it doesn't retract really well, and the hoses that are supposed to drain water don't really do their job. I usually buy BAK covers, simply because I have always had good luck with them.

Might catch some flak for this, but just got done doing some 1.5" spacers all around this bad girl. Looks way better imo. Will have to do until I can rub a few pennies together for some proper wheels/tires.

Yes, it’s better to run wheels with the proper offset to achieve the desired stance but I happen to like the factory wheels and also didn’t want to spend $2K.
I went with 1.5in spacers👍

Yup, 1.5 inch spacers on mine, too. Today I rotated my tires/wheels, with intention to start doing most of the maintenance work myself. Also got under the truck and discovered where the oil filter is.

Unfortunately, my episode with the attempted vehicle recovery out near Aspen caused problems. I ran on so much really rough trail that it loosened the lug nuts on my front wheels. The noise of the loosened wheels coming home on I-70 didn't get really annoying until I got to Georgetown, where I stopped and discovered the problem and tightened the nuts.

Today one of the nuts was seized so bad ... I broke the stud in the Spacer clean off.

So I had to order another pair of Supreme Suspension 1.5 inch spacers from American Trucks.

The lugs on the spacers to hub loosened up or the spacer to wheel lugs?

"Beer don't keep, Love ain't cheep, and trucks don't wreck themselves." Spacers.......physics.......torque........just sayin 😁

It was the outer nuts on the Spacer lugs. No problem with the nuts provided with the spacers that are on the Hub stud bolts. And to be honest, I was the last one to turn the lug nuts ... when I installed the spacers last year. So now I have purchased a much larger Breaker Bar to make it easier to torque them all to at least 100-120 ftlbs. And I brought a needle-type torque wrench home from my hangar to check the torque.

I really like these spacers, with the stance they provide, and greater stability, and in reducing the sensitivity of the steering. That was really light with the stock setup. Our good friend in PHX seems to not like spacers. 😛 But not having them is the most dorky part of the stock TB appearance, IMHO.

I'm glad you have a sense of humor. Yes, I was poking a little fun. The dorckyest part of a TB to me is the anemic 32 inch tires in general. Mine is begging me for 35s!

The recommended torque spec for our trucks is 140ft/lb which should keep them from getting loose on you next time.

Ahh, that's the problem. So it's good that I brought one of my torque wrenches home, and purchased an extra long and sturdy breaker bar. Thanks.

-Upgraded to an auto dimming rearview mirror.
-Install stubby antenna which did not affect reception.
-fixed a rattle that has been bugging me for 3000 miles because I could find it.
where did you find your auto-dimming rearview mirror?

Very nice! I was looking at the same hood for mine. I know they paint it. Was the color spot on to original? Just curious.
I just received and installed my functional ram air hood from Dawn Enterprises! I love it, and it sets it apart from any other Trail Boss's I have seen in my town! Any other Silverado 1500's, for that matter! Getting it to close properly took a little convincing though. I had to adjust the latch location a little bit and the rubber hood guards slightly to have everything close nicely. But it was fairly simple! I of course had to replace the 6.2L badges with some aftermarket ones while I was at it lol.
Awesome👍
Are you still happy with it?
Does it wobble or vibrate on the highway?
Thanks

And did you install the optional Ram Air kit?
Hey I just messaged you back, sorry for the delay! The hood will need some very minor adjustments to create a good seal with no vibrations. A couple of washers on the driver's side bolts will make it so everything lines up nicely. The hood latch needed to come up and towards the driver's side just a little bit as well. As far as the ram air effect goes, you just need to have a cold air intake with an air box that opens to the top. They recommend K&N simply because the opening on the underside of the hood is shaped for K&N's air box shapes. I happened to already have a K&N intake installed prior to purchasing the hood. K&N's weatherstripping on the top of their air boxes are designed to seal against the hood and all around the opening. Otherwise, the air will blow just wherever in your engine compartment lol, subtracting from the ram air effect. But this hood will improve your engine's airflow even if you go with another intake brand, so long as the top of that air box is open.
